Environmental Education Internship

Application - This internship is available during the spring, summer and fall seasons.  Applications will be taken at any time.

Stratford Ecological Center is a working farm devoted to environmental awareness and appreciation.  Among its many goals is the implementation of an environmental education program.  Students from preschool through eighth grade visit the farm for an unforgettable hands-on interaction with the earth and it's many inhabitants.  Activities range from painting faces with rock paint at the creek, climbing on the compost pile, tasting tomatoes, hugging cows, thanking plants, listening to the wind and turning manure into milkshakes.  Teachers bring their students to Stratford to get a taste of real farm living, to learn where their food comes from, and to gather an appreciation and sense of wonder for our natural home and all its life forms.

Stratford is a private, nonprofit state nature preserve and wilderness area.  We are located just south of Delaware and 30 minutes north of Columbus.  There are 236 acres of land, both woods and farmland, in which lies a pond, a creek, two buttonbush swamps, an historic cemetery and a maple-sugaring house.  Stratford is involved in on-farm research, working with various farming organizations and promoting sustainable agriculture.  We are multi-faceted with environmental education at the forefront of our mission.

Schools come from all over Franklin and Delaware counties to join us in our excitement for the land.  On Mondays and Tuesdays, the schools are visited by staff and interns to prepare and excite them for their upcoming field trip.  Volunteers come Wednesday through Friday and join us in guiding our student friends around the land.  Two interns are needed to work hand in hand with the education director and field trip coordinator to prepare and facilitate our education seasons.  A love of children, a deep relationship with the land, and a willingness to learn are necessary.  In return you will get the experience of teaching and learning with children in our natural world, visiting schools to excite and enlighten, and developing your own personal relationship with the land.  Although activities as an intern are not compensated, interns are afforded an opportunity for part time employment for work around the farm.

We invite you to call or visit to experience the magic of Stratford first-hand.  We are open Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday, 9:00am - 1:00pm.
